Kratom has been growing in popularity, mainly for its energizing or calming effects (depending on the strain you get). It can also be used as an external applicant, and can be use in home products such as soap. The antibacterial properties of the Southeast Asian herb proves as a great alternative to store-bought, chemical-filled soaps.

While you will not likely feel the effects of kratom by rubbing on your skin, it may help to know that you created the bar yourself, and know exactly what was used to make it. At Green Hippo, one of our largest focuses has been on making sure we know what gets put into our bodies. That’s why we use 100% pure kratom in all of our products.

To make homemade Kratom soap, you will need:

  • 4-8 oz kratom powder
  • 5 oz avocado oil
  • 15 oz olive oil
  • 7 oz coconut oil
  • 1 oz shea butter
  • 12 oz water
  • ¼ cup lye (100% sodium hydroxide)
  • Glycerin
  • Essential oils for aroma (optional)

Step 1: Lay a towel down on the area you are using to avoid stains or spills.

Step 2: Heat glycerin on the stove and as it starts to melt, add all the oils and mix them thoroughly with the glycerin. Try not to let the mixture exceed 115 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 3: Mix the lye in with the water while keeping your eyes protected (lab goggles work best).

Step 4: Once the mixture is cooled, mix it with oil solution.

Step 5: Finally, add in the kratom powder and any aromatic additions you desire. Once mixed, put the mixture into a soap mold and allow it to dry for at least 24 hours.

Step 6: Use and enjoy!
